Charlotte FC (2022-23): Jones appeared in 44 matches (30 starts) for Charlotte during his two seasons with the club. He posted one goal in MLS play and added a long-range strike against South Georgia Tormenta FC in the Third Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Jones was traded to the Columbus Crew on December 21, 2023.

Houston Dynamo FC (2021-22): Derrick Jones made 20 regular season appearances while recording one assist for the Dynamo in 2021. He made his Dynamo debut on April 16, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. Jones was traded to Charlotte FC after the first two games of the 2022 season.

Nashville SC (2020): Jones made 18 appearances (nine starts) and three postseason appearances in Nashville's successful expansion campaign. Prior to joining MLS’ Nashville SC, Jones played the 2019 season with USL’s Nashville SC where he played in six matches, two in the USL playoffs.

Philadelphia Union (2016-19): On Jul. 27, 2016, Jones signed with the Philadelphia Union as the 4th Homegrown player in club history and contributed in 26 regular season matches for the club during his tenure. Jones made his Union debut in Philadelphia's opening match of the 2017 MLS season, a 0–0 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps. He scored his only goal for the Union on June 15 in a 3–1 victory against the Harrisburg City Islanders in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup.

Bethlehem Steel: Jones became the first signing in the history of the United Soccer League’s Bethlehem Steel on Dec. 3, 2015 and scored five goals in 26 appearances with the club. He made his debut on April 3, 2016, in a 2–1 loss to FC Cincinnati and scored his first goal on April 17 in a 2–1 win against the Richmond Kickers.
