Buttner is a veteran Dutch defender, with experience in the top flights of the Netherlands, England and Russia, who will look to elevate New England's defensive corps for 2019.

INTERNATIONAL: Buttner represented the Dutch national team at the U-19 and U-20 levels. Was a provisional selection to the senior team's 2012 Euros squad, but did not make the final cut.

OUTSIDE MLS: Perhaps best known for his stint with Manchester United from 2012-14, Buttner has played in his native Netherlands for Vitesse, Russia for Dynamo Moscow, and Belgium for Anderlecht.

TITLES WON: Buttner has won a Premier League title and a Dutch KNVB Cup.
