Jonathan Sirois - Vancouver Whitecaps

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan

Vancouver Whitecaps FC have signed goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois on loan from Montreal Impact for their final MLS is Back Tournament Group B game against Chicago Fire FC on Thursday (9 am ET | ESPN, ESPN Deportes in US; TSN in Canada). After the game, Sirois will return to the Impact.

The Whitecaps are without first-choice goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau after he fractured his left thumb against the Seattle Sounders on Sunday. Backup goalkeeper Bryan Meredith is also unavailable after leaving the tournament to travel to New Jersey to be with his family following the sudden death of his mother. The 'Caps' only other goalkeeper, Homegrown player Thomas Hasal, came off the bench to replace Crépeau, making his MLS debut on Sunday.

“We are very thankful to Olivier Renard and the Montreal Impact for their flexibility and support in loaning out Jonathan for our game tomorrow,” Axel Schuster, CEO and sporting director of Whitecaps FC, said in a team release.

Sirois signed for the Impact on a Homegrown contract in March after developing with the team's academy since 2015, playing for the U-15, U-17, and U-19 teams. He was invited to the Generation adidas International Elite Soccer Program in 2018.

"We are very appreciative for Montreal’s openness and understanding of our current situation,” added head coach Marc Dos Santos. “Our keeper coach Youssef Dahha is familiar with Jonathan from his time in Montreal and we are thankful we will have him on our bench for tomorrow’s crucial match against Chicago.”
