Maxime Crepeau - Vancouver Whitecaps FC - Injury

Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau suffered a fractured left thumb during the second half of Sunday’s match against the Seattle Sounders. The injury occurred when he collided with Sounders winger Handwalla Bwana.

Crepeau will be scheduled to undergo surgery in Metro Vancouver and the club will continue to provide updates when available. Crepeau has been Vancouver's No. 1 goalkeeper since joining the club prior to last season.

“I am very thankful for all the messages of support I’ve received from all over the globe,” added Crepeau. “It touched me and my family deeply. I will always give everything I have on the field and this is just a minor setback for a major comeback. I hope to see you all soon. Stay safe and take care of your loved ones.“

Vancouver Whitecaps will finish group stage play against Chicago Fire FC on Thursday (9 am ET | ESPN, ESPN Deportes in US; TSN in Canada). Thomas Hasal figures to get his first MLS start in net, after making his MLS debut against the Sounders. Bryan Meredith is not with the club following the sudden death of his mother, so head coach Marc Dos Santos could be pressed for options.
