Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Russell Teibert has agreed to a new contract through 2023 with an option for 2024.

The 27-year-old Canadian international has played for the Whitecaps since their inaugural season in 2011.

As the longest-tenured player on the roster with 200 overall appearances in all competitions, the 27-year-old ranks second in the club’s all-time MLS rankings with 17 assists, and is third in MLS starts, appearances, minutes, chances created, successful passes, and passing accuracy.

“Russell represents what we are building at this club with our four cornerstones,” Axel Schuster, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director, said in a statement. “He played in our first ever MLS game and has been a model professional on the pitch and in the community. He is a presence in our locker room that his teammates look upon for leadership and someone our academy players look up to and respect.”

In 2017, Teibert was named the VWFC Humanitarian of the Year, and he continues to be a community leader.

Said Teibert in a statement: “We are building a club that our supporters will be proud of, and I’m here for the long term. What the club has been doing, especially in the community over the past couple of months, convinced me this is an organization that I'd want to continue to grow with and a city I want to continue to call home.”
