USL: Rochester Rhinos see unbeaten streak snapped while three MLS-owned clubs come out on top

USL: Rapids' Alvarez helps snap Rochester unbeaten streak

All good things must come to an end. Even ones as good as the Rochester Rhinos' unbeaten record.

The Rhinos suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday night, losing in their 20th game of the campaign via a 4-2 mark. The team that finally knocked Rochester off were the Charlotte Independence, who got goals from four different players, including on-loan Colorado Rapids midfielder Carlos Alvarez

The weekend was not much better for a number of MLS-owned clubs. LA Galaxy II, Toronto FC II, FC Montreal, the Real Monarchs and the Seattle Sounders 2 all failed to pick up maximum points in their respective matches, and only Montreal were able to pick up a result out of that bunch.

FC Montreal were able to pick up a point, as they went on the road and held the Charleston Battery to a scoreless draw. First-team goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau played a big part, making six saves for a Montreal team sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference table. (MONTREAL RECAP)

There were some winning MLS-operated teams, and the New York Red Bulls II were among them. New York topped Saint Louis FC, 2-1, at their East Hanover, New Jersey, training facility via goals from Marius Obekop and Franklin Castellanos, who scored in the final minute of regulation. First-team goalkeeper Santiago Castaño contributed to the victory by making seven stops in between the pipes. (RED BULLS RECAP)

The Portland Timbers 2 also grabbed a one-goal victory this weekend, going on the road and edging the Austin Aztex 1-0. George Fochive came up with the lone goal, scoring in the 54th minute with a half-volley. First-team youngsters Nick Besler and Andy Thoma helped pitch the shutout, which has the club four points out of the final playoff position in the Western Conference  (TIMBERS RECAP)

The Vancouver Whitecaps 2 were the biggest winners, taking a 3-1 result against the Tulsa Roughnecks. Marco Bustos bagged a first-half brace to lead the way for the Canadian side, while Victor Blasco capped the scoring shortly after Tulsa pulled one back in the 50th minute. (WHITECAPS RECAP)
