Weston McKennie - September 20, 2020

Weston McKennie already made history when he signed with Juventus. On Sunday, in his third Serie A start, the US men’s national team midfielder picked up his first point  for his new club.

McKennie, who played 15 minutes off the bench in a 2-0 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League Wednesday in his first appearance since testing positive for COVID-19, was back in Andrea Pirlo’s starting XI Sunday for a 4-1 win over Spezia Calcio.

The former FC Dallas academy product set up Alvaro Morata’s opening goal in the 14th minute, unselfishly passing up his first goal to set up the Spanish striker.

Juventus are third in Serie A, behind AC Milan, who defeated Udinese on a Zlatan Ibrahimovic bicycle kick goal seven minutes from time, and Sassuolo.

Ledezma picks up assist in PSV debut

Real Salt Lake academy product Richie Ledezma finally made his first appearance for PSV Eindhoven Sunday after coming up through the club’s youth ranks and the US U-23 national team midfielder also picked up an assist in the 4-0 victory over ADO Den Haag.

Ledezma, who connected on all 16 of his passes, including 12 in the attacking half, set up a goal by Ryan Thomas to put PSV up 3-0 in the 84th minute.

Miazga solid in Anderlecht win

US men’s national team center back Matt Miazga put in a solid 90-minute shift for Anderlecht in a 1-0 win over Royal Antwerp in the Jupiler Pro League Sunday.

Miazga, who made his third consecutive start in his season-long loan from Chelsea, was part of an almost exclusive former New York Red Bulls backline in Vincent Kompany’s 4-3-3 formation, with Jamaican international Kemar Lawrence playing 73 minutes at left back and Panamanian international Michael Amir Murillo also going 90 minutes at right back.

De la Torre helps Heracles Almelo past FC Utrecht

Luca de la Torre, another US U-23 national team player, went 87 minutes in his second consecutive start, as Heracles Almelo defeated FC Utrecht 4-1 at home Sunday.

Emmanuel Sabbi’s strong run of form continues for Odense BK with the US U-23 winger scoring the lone goal, an 11th-minute tap-in, in a 1-0 win over AC Horsens in the Danish Superligaen Sunday.

It was the 22-year-old’s third goal of the season to go along with one assist in seven appearances — all in the starting XI — this season.

Michael Lansing, a Randolph, NJ native, was the backup goalkeeper for AC Horsens.

David comes on late in Lille draw vs. Lyon

Canadian national team standout Jonathan David was brought on as part of a double substitution one minute from time as Lille drew 10-man Lyon 1-1 Sunday, missing a chance to move level with Paris Saint-Germain atop the Ligue 1 table. Lille remain second, two points behind the leaders failing to capitalize on Marcelo's sending off in the 50th minute.

For a second straight league match, Timothy Weah did not make the matchday roster. He played eight minutes as a sub against Celtic in a Europa League draw.

Johannsson starts, but no goals, in Hammarby IF draw

Aron Johannsson can't score every game right? The former USMNT striker went 90 minutes, but wasn't able to find the back of the net in a 1-1 Allsvenskan draw against BK Hacken.
