Report: Altidore drew recent La Liga interest

Jozy Altidore - Toronto FC - March 7, 2020

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Jozy Altidore heading back to La Liga? According to Steven Goff of The Washington Post, there were at least preliminary inquires about that possibility.

Goff said an unnamed team approached Altidore before the recent transfer window closed in Europe. But reportedly talks didn’t go beyond contract terms so transfer talks with Toronto FC weren’t discussed.

The 30-year-old Altidore reportedly has two years remaining on a contract that pays him $4.5 million annually.

Altidore joined Villarreal in 2008 from the New York Red Bulls for what was at the time the largest transfer fee in MLS history and became the first American to score in La Liga. After three loan stints, Altidore signed with AZ in the Netherlands and then-Premier League side Sunderland before returning to MLS with Toronto FC in 2015.

Currently on the shelf with an injury, Altidore has two goals in 12 appearances with the Reds this season.
