Player of the Week

Seattle Sounders' Raul Ruidiaz voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 6

Ruidiaz's brace, assist earns Sounders striker Player of the Week award

Seattle Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz was voted the MLS Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2020 MLS season.

Ruidíaz scored a superb brace and added an assist in Seattle's 3-0 defeat of Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers on Sunday at Providence Park. His four league goals currently tie him for fourth in the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. The brace was Ruidíaz’s fourth in his MLS regular season career.

Seattle sits tied for second in the Western Conference standings with 11 points (3W-1L-2D).

Ruidíaz gave the Sounders a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute with an inspired right-footed shot from inside the box that rattled the crossbar and off the back of goalkeeper Steve Clark on its way across the line. He doubled Seattle’s lead in the 83rd minute when he fought off a defender in the box and sent a delightful chip over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The Peru national team standout then registered his first assist of the season on Kelvin Leerdam’s 85th-minute goal.

Seattle returns to action in Wednesday's visit to the LA Galaxy (11 pm ET | UniMás, TUDN in US; MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada) before hosting LAFC on Sunday (10 pm ET | FS1).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75% of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25% of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
