Seattle Sounders capture 2015 Cascadia Cup with lopsided road win against Vancouver Whitecaps

Sounders kings of Cascadia for first time since 2011

The Seattle Sounders are once again kings of Cascadia.

After falling short in each of the past three seasons, the Sounders reclaimed the Cascadia Cup on Saturday with a 3-0 road win against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Goals from Andreas Ivanschitz, Gonzalo Pineda and Obafemi Martins were enough to help Seattle prevail at BC Place, a victory that snapped Vancouver's two-year reign as regional champions.

The Sounders last won the Cascadia Cup -- which is contested every year by the Sounders, Whitecaps, and Portland Timbers -- in 2011. Sigi Schmid's side claimed the 2015 trophy by finishing with 12 points via a 4-2-0 record. The Whitecaps were second with eight points (2-2-2), and the Timbers finished last with five points (1-3-2).
