Canada international defender Richie Laryea has signed a new contract with Toronto FC, the club announced Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Laryea, who spent his first three MLS seasons with Orlando City, has found new life since joining the Reds. He’s made 43 appearances over the past four-plus seasons, with three goals and three assists spanning the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

“Richie has been terrific since he joined us. He played a valuable role, both for TFC and the Canadian men’s national team last year,” TFC general manager Ali Curtis said of the Toronto native in a team release. “Off the field, Richie’s character and personality is tremendous. He earned this new contract in many ways, and we are excited for him, his family and what he will bring to TFC moving forward.”

Laryea, 25, signed with Toronto in 2019 after impressing during a preseason trial. His career started in midfield, though he’s since shifted to right back under head coach Greg Vanney.

The No. 7 selection in the 2016 SuperDraft, Laryea played college soccer at Akron. He’s made six appearances with Canada’s men’s national team, breaking into the squad last September.
