UPDATE (September 2): According to a report from Jeff Carlisle at ESPN, Miami are "very close" to agreeing personal terms with Gonzalo Higuain, though, contrary to reports in Argentina and Italy on Tuesday, an agreement has not yet been finalized.

UPDATE (September 1): Reports from Argentina and Italy indicate that star striker Gonzalo Higuain has declined offers in England and Italy and has reached an agreement with Inter Miami.

According to The Athletic's Pablo Maurer, Inter Miami have also worked out a deal to acquire his rights in MLS with MLSsoccer.com's Charles Boehm reporting that it was D.C. United that held those rights. All that's left is the arrangement for his departure from Italy's Juventus.

UPDATE (August 31): Miami have made a "formal offer" to Higuain, according to TyC Sports journalist German Garcia Grova.

ORIGINAL REPORT (August 30): Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain is the latest big name to be linked to Inter Miami CF, according to FIFA.com reporter Abdellah Boulma.

Higuain has had "advanced discussions" with Miami, although there are multiple other suitors making a play for the 32-year-old forward, Boulma Tweeted.

It's hard to know what to make of transfer chatter involving Inter Miami given the lengthy list of marquee players they've been linked with, but Higuain would check at least a couple of boxes: A proven prolific goal-scorer for a team that could still use one, and the type of big name would move the publicity needle for owner David Beckham and Co. in South Florida.

Higuain is among the world's most accomplished active strikers among proven striker, having succeeded at every stop of his career beginning at Argentine giants River Plate and continuing to Europe. He scored 107 league goals in 190 matches for Real Madrid from 2007-2013, put up another 71 with Napoli from 2013-2016, and has 48 in Serie A with Juventus, where he's been since 2016. Higuain has also done stints on loan with AC Milan and Chelsea since joining Juventus, and has 31 goals in 75 senior caps for the Argentina national team.

Another factor that could play into an eventual move to MLS for Higuain is the family connection. His older brother Federico is known as one of the best playmakers to in MLS history for his stint with Columbus Crew SC from 2012-2019 and is currently a player-coach for D.C. United.
