More details surrounding US national team veteran Fabian Johnson's potential move to one of several interested MLS clubs emerged Sunday in a report from SBI Soccer.
According to the SBI report, the current Borussia Mochengladbach fullback is seeking a Targeted Allocation Money-level salary and not a contract that would require a Designated Player tag.
That's in conflict with the previous report Saturday from Sports Illustrated's Kristian Dyer, which said Johnson would be seeking a DP deal.
Additionally, SBI indicates Johnson is on the MLS Allocation List, meaning a club would have to use their allocation spot to sign him. After MLSsoccer.com's Tom Bogert reported that LAFC had signed Andy Najar, another player reportedly on the list, that would leave Inter Miami CF with the top selection, with FC Cincinnati second.
Cincinnati were among the teams that previously expressed interest in signing Johnson for their expansion campaign in 2019.
The 32-year-old Johnson has been with Monchengladbach since 2014 and has played his entire professional career to this point in Germany. He has a 57 career caps for the USMNT, scoring two goals, but hasn't drawn a cap for the senior team since 2017. Johnson represented Germany at the youth level, but was able to make the switch to represent the US due to a change in FIFA eligibility rules.
