Report: Galaxy dual-nationals Alvarez, Araujo to get USMNT call-up

Efrain Alvarez - LA Galaxy - Celebrate

After a youth-focused US men's national team gathered for November's FIFA international window in Europe, the excitement looks set to continue.

According to reports by Scuffed Podcast and ESPN's Tom Marshall, the USMNT will call in the LA Galaxy's dual-national teenage duo of Efrain Alvarez and Julian Araujo for a domestic-based camp next week. Both players are also eligible for Mexico.

Alvarez, 18, represented US youth national teams during his early teenage years before switching to Mexico's youth ranks and featuring at the U-17 World Cup for El Tri. It would be the attacking midfielder's first return to the US pipeline since 2016.

Alvarez's inclusion doesn't mean his future is decided, though, since he would need to file a one-time request to switch associations. If he doesn't before the reported friendly against El Salvador, he wouldn't be eligible to play.

Alvarez, a Homegrown Player, has made 30 appearances (10 starts) over the last two seasons with the Galaxy. He has one goal and five assists.

Araujo, 19, has been a regular with the Galaxy since signing at the beginning of the 2019 season. He has logged 35 appearances (27 starts), showing the ability to play either right back or right midfield.

He has represented the US at various youth levels and has not yet played for Mexico. Mexico head coach Tata Martino confirmed he has spoken with Araujo and hopes he'll choose Mexico in the future.
