PORTLAND TIMBERS vs. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS

Cascadia Cup rivals Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC meet for a third time this season when they clash Saturday evening at Providence Park. The Timbers saw their recent of good form come to a crashing halt last weekend, falling 3-0 at Philadelphia Union. Whitecaps FC returned home for the first time in more than a month, but lost their consecutive match, falling 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City at BC Place.
- The Timbers saw their two-game winning streak put to an end in a 3-0 loss at Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at PPL Park. The Timbers have gone 6-2-0 over their last eight games; in the two defeats, both on the road, they’ve allowed eight goals (allowing two goals total in the six wins).
- Whitecaps FC returned home for the first time since May 30 and lost a second consecutive game, falling 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday evening at BC Place.
- The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Robert Earnshaw scored the game-winning goal on the stroke of full time to give Whitecaps FC a stunning 2-1 victory, March 28 at BC Place; the teams played to a scoreless draw May 2 at Providence Park.
- Whitecaps FC have won just twice in 13 all-time MLS meetings between the teams, both of those victories coming in the last five meetings.
- The ‘Caps have come away with points in three of the last four encounters at Providence Park, with a win and two draws.
