Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi nabs Player of the Week honors after brace vs. Seattle Sounders

Two goals in two minutes land POTW honors for Portland's Adi

After leading the Portland Timbers to a huge win over their biggest rival, forward Fanendo Adi has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 17 of the 2015 MLS season.

Adi scored twice in the second half of Portland’s 4-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday with both goals coming within two minutes of each other. The first gave the Timbers a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute and the second helped secure the home victory in the 76th.

It was the Nigerian’s seventh multi-goal game since joining Portland last May -- and he celebrated the occasion by grabbing Timber Joey’s chainsaw and mimicking cutting off his own slab.

Adi is now tied for third in MLS with eight goals on the season. He's the first Timbers player to earn a Player of the Week nod this year.

The red-hot Timbers, who have won five of their last six league matches, visit Real Salt Lake for a US Open Cup match Wednesday before hosting San Jose on Sunday in league play (5 pm ET, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, TSN2).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
