Awards - 2020 - Supporters' Shield - PHI

The Philadelphia Union are winners of the 2020 Supporters’ Shield, using a 2-0 win Sunday on Decision Day presented by AT&T against the New England Revolution to outlast Toronto FC and clinch their first major piece of silverware since entering MLS in 2010.

The Union reached 47 points and had a 14-4-5 record during the 23-game regular season, continuing their steady climb under head coach Jim Curtin and sporting director Ernst Tanner. They’ve also locked up first place in the Eastern Conference standings ahead of the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.

While he’s missed their last two games with a hand fracture, Philadelphia have been led all year by Andre Blake, who’s a frontrunner for the Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year award. Other keys are the Homegrown duo of center back Mark McKenzie and midfielder Brenden Aaronson, with the latter set to join Red Bull Salzburg this winter via transfer. The list goes on, though midfielders Alejandro Bedoya and Jamiro Monteiro, as well as forwards Sergio Santos and Kacper Przybylko have also proven crucial.

The Shield, which used points per game to determine a winner, returns to the East after landing with LAFC in 2019. Here’s a rundown of the all-time Shield leaders, as sorted in reverse chronological order, with the LA Galaxy and D.C. United both home to a league-leading four Shields:
