The New England Revolution officially signed trialists London Woodberry and Tyler Rudy, the club announced on Saturday. Both players had been with the Revs throughout the club’s preseason, playing in all five matches as Jay Heaps examined ways to fill out his roster. Per club and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Woodberry, who has played primarily in central defense during the preseason, is entering his third season as a professional, having made his debut in 2013 with FC Dallas. A native of McKinney, Texas, Woodberry signed with FC Dallas as a Homegrown Player in January 2013. He appeared in eight regular season games for Dallas before being waived in March 2014.
Woodberry went on to sign with Arizona United of the USL and played in 24 games for the club last season, scoring twice. In addition to his club career, Woodberry was a member of the U.S. Under-18 National Team that won a gold medal at the Australian International Olympic Festival in 2008.
Rudy is a midfielder who signed with the club after a four-year college career at Georgetown. The 21-year-old had seven goals and 12 assists in 88 appearances for the Hoyas while helping them reach the College Cup Final in 2012. A native of Olney, Maryland, Rudy served as a captain for Georgetown as a senior in 2014, earning Second Team All-BIG EAST honors while also being named a BIG EAST All-Academic selection.
