MLS Power Rankings, Week 14: Toronto FC move into top three thanks to Sebastian Giovinco excellence

Seems the consensus is that the Sounders deserve a mulligan after going on the road without three starters and holding Sporting to a late PK. We're certain this won't provoke any comments section furor.

Sporting average 0.5 goals per game against Seattle. Against the rest of the league, they average 1.75 goals per game. Certainly, Krisztian Nemeth was missed, but KC found a way regardless.

Statement game of the weekend. Thanks to the formation change and the progress of young defenders Eriq Zavaleta and Ashtone Morgan, TFC look like the best team in the East.

Indisputably a different team when Fabian Espindola is 100 percent healthy. It'll be interesting to see how much time he gets this weekend on the (hot) rug in Florida.

Followed up a good performance but a bad result in Montreal with their smartest, best defensive performance of the year at LA. Still not truly clicking, but they don't really need to be to get results.

They've scored just once in their last four, and Mauro Diaz isn't finding the space or options to create chances. A road shutout is nice – especially within the conference – but Dallas are a shadow of the team that started the year 3-0-1.

They are now winless in six, and clearly missed Jermaine Jones' coverage and presence in central midfield.

Just when we were ready to believe, they put up that performance. Just another data point to tell us what's been patently obvious: This team struggles to create anything meaningful without Jose Villarreal.

Nobody flies higher when the times are good than Timbers folks, and right now the times are very, very good. They have their first three-game winning streak of their MLS tenure and are (finally) turning home shutouts into wins.

Only one loss in five, and wins over both Toronto and Portland in that span. The big question – as it is every year – is how long Will Bruin will stay on this current hot streak.

Last: 9

Their only win in the last two months was over NYCFC, and they've lost four of their last six. The second half has been a meat grinder for this team, which really, really needs the bye week.

They keep getting goals from their young center forwards, which reverses a worrisome trend from early in the season. Now the defense needs work, as they've conceded multiple goals in six of their last eight games.

Only one loss in their last seven, but only one game with multiple goals scored in that span. And let's be honest: They should have had two or three in the first half vs. Dallas. They let two points go, even with all the red cards.

Posted four shutouts in Hernan Grana's seven starts. In the six games since he left, they've yet to keep a clean sheet and have conceded 13 goals overall. Correlation isn't necessarily causality here, but understand this: Fullbacks are really, really important.

A six-point week, the first road win of Frank Klopas' tenure, and 12 points from the last 15 on offer? That hammering by the Fire 10 days ago now looks more like a blip than a meaningful signifier.

They're crossing the ball more, which is leading to more shots. The looks aren't great, though, and they're still being out-shot and out-possessed on a regular basis.

Harry Shipp as a No. 10 is exciting. Mike Magee returning to action is exciting. And Chicago's backline is exciting, but for all the wrong reasons. It went from bad to worse this week on Lake Michigan.
