LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the sixth week of the 2015 MLS season.

Penedo put on a goalkeeping clinic against Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, turning away all 10 of Seattle’s shots on goal and making some spectacular saves in the process. Thanks to Penedo’s clean sheet and Alan Gordon’s 23rd-minute header, LA secured a 1-0 victory for the club’s second win of the season.

The Galaxy ‘keeper wasted no time making his presence felt. In the ninth minute, Sounders forward Lamar Neagle directed a header toward the far corner of the net, but Penedo extended every inch of his six-foot frame to tip it over the crossbar. Penedo’s fantastic effort earned him a spot on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10, but his work was far from done.

With LA holding on to a precarious 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute, Neagle –  who was denied on each of his five shots on goal – connected with midfielder Andy Rose on a short cross inside the penalty area. Penedo positioned himself perfectly on the near post and managed to deflect Rose’s point-blank shot away, allowing Galaxy defender Dan Gargan to clear the ball from danger.

The Galaxy return to action this Saturday as they host Sporting Kansas City at StubHub Center (10:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
