"It's heartbreaking": Watch USMNT star Weston McKennie deliver powerful message on standing for equality

McKennie: "I'm representing a country that possibly doesn't accept me for the color of my skin"

Weston McKennie - September 20, 2020

Weston McKennie is playing for one of the most storied clubs in the world, is a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo and has Andrea Pirlo as a coach at Juventus. He’s also a regular for the US men’s national team, part of a bright young core of players.

But the 21-year-old former FC Dallas academy standout wants to be known for more than just his ability on the field. McKennie said he wants to be known “as a great human being, as a great person” in this #ReadyforChange video. He talks about his decision to wear an armband that read "Justice for George Floyd," during a match for Schalke 04 in June and the positive and negative feedback he received because of it, his experience with racist abuse and his role in impacting change.
