Former LA Galaxy Homegrown product Jose Villarreal signing with Philippine club Global Makati FC

Galaxy product headed across the Pacific – where did he sign?

Jose Villarreal - LA Galaxy - Close up

Former LA Galaxy Homegrown product Jose Villarreal is making a move to the Philippines.

Villarreal, 26, will be joining Global Makati FC of the Philippines Football League, per a post from the club's official Facebook account.

Villarreal's signing is part of a recent spending spree from Global, which has also inked former a Manchester United academy member in forward John Cofie and English defender Suleman Naeem. The club is evidently intent on regaining its footing after enduring a period of financial struggles that even saw them forfeit a handful of games in 2019 after finding themselves unable to field a team.

Villarreal, who hails from Inglewood, Calif., signed with the Galaxy on a Homegrown deal in 2011 and wound up making 68 appearances for the first team from 2012-2017, netting five goals. He most recently featured in MLS for Orlando City SC in 2018, making three appearances, before spending 2019 with the Las Vegas Lights of the USL Championship, scoring one goal in 16 appearances. He also featured in USL play for LA Galaxy II from 2014-2017, netting seven goals in 33 games.

One of the more promising products of the LA Galaxy academy system, he was good for some amazing golazos. Check some of the best of them below, including a sensational strike against Real Madrid.
