This Saturday featured an action-packed slate of exports playing overseas. Sorted by country, here’s a rundown of how notable players fared.
Germany
Up against SC Freiburg, RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams came off the bench for the final eight minutes of a 3-0 win to keep pace atop the Bundesliga standings. Adams, who’s set to soon join the US men’s national team for November friendlies, also came off the bench in their midweek Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain as he recovers from an injury.
USMNT midfielder Giovanni Reyna got the start against Bayern Munich for Borussia Dortmund’s crucial Bundesliga match Saturday afternoon. USMNT defender Chris Richards was named to the bench for Bayern, while Vancouver Whitecaps product Alphonso Davies is still recovering from injury.
Down in the 2. Bundesliga, fringe USMNT midfielder Julian Green started and went 72 minutes in a 2-0 win for Greuther Furth over VFL Bochum. He was particularly active, but missed a penalty kick after scoring in their previous victory.
Spain
In FC Barcelona’s 5-2 win over Real Betis, USMNT defender Sergino Dest and up-and-coming attacker Konrad de la Fuente both were unused substitutes. They’re slated to join the national team for upcoming friendlies against Wales and Panama.
England
Former NYCFC midfielder Jack Harrison went the full 90 minutes in a 4-1 setback for Leeds United at Crystal Palace. After a strong start to the Premier League season, they’ve lost back-to-back games.
As announced earlier this week, USMNT star Christian Pulisic wasn’t at full health for Chelsea’s match Saturday against Sheffield United. He’s racing to recover from a hamstring injury and has missed the Blues' last several games.
After helping Rotherham United get promoted to the Championship a season ago, Matthew Olosunde made his first start in England’s second tier. The outside back went 89 minutes in a 2-1 win over Preston North End, having previously twice come off the bench this season.
Former USMNT midfielder/defender Geoff Cameron went the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 loss for Queens Park Rangers against Blackburn Rovers. Cameron, a former Houston Dynamo star, has played in England since 2012 and captains QPR.
Antonee Robinson continues see heavy minutes for Fulham, starting and playing all 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat to West Ham that came on a concession in second-half stoppage time, followed by a brutal missed penalty kick that prevented them from salvaging a point.
Fellow US international Tim Ream was in the matchday squad for Fulham, but didn't see the field in this contest.
Austria
Erik Palmer-Brown started and played the entirety of Austria Wien's 0-0 draw Saturday in league action against SC Rheindorf Altac. The former Sporting Kansas City center back is on loan at the Austrian Bundesliga club from Chelsea, and has now started six straight games.
France
Fresh off his first call-up to the US men's national team for its upcoming friendlies against Wales and Panama, it was a big day for Stade Malherbe Caen forward Nicholas Gioacchini, who scored a dramatic game-winning goal in second-half stoppage time to give his team a 2-1 victory in their match against Nancy.
The 20-year-old Kansas City native has been with Caen in France's second division Ligue 2 since 2018, and it's certainly worth keeping an eye on how he fares now that he's in the USMNT fold.
