A few names familiar to US and Canadian soccer fans are seeing action abroad today, including a goalscoring outing for one MLS and Canadian export and starts in league games for Miguel Almiron and Josh Sargent.
Besiktas at Gaziantep
Canadian international and ex-Orlando City forward Cyle Larin scored the only goal for Besiktas in a 1-3 loss to Gaziantep. At the time, it was the game equalizer, but Gaziantep added a second goal two minutes later and finished with a third in 90'+8'.
Werder Bremen vs. FC Koln
After Werder Bremen declined to release Josh Sargent for the USMNT call-up over COVID-19 concerns, the 20-year-old forward got the start in the their match vs. FC Koln. Sargent has two goals in eight appearances (league and cup) for Werder so far this season. Sargent played the full 90 in Werder's 1-1 draw with Koln.
Newcastle United at Southampton FC
While Miguel Almiron has appeared in all of Newcastle's eight regular-season matches in the 2020/2021 campaign. The Paraguayan played the full 90 today, but is still looking for his first goal of the season as his side fell 0-2 to Southhampton.
Dundee United FC at St. Mirren
Former MLS midfielders Ian Harkes and Dillon Powers featured today for Dundee United, with Powers subbing in for Harkes in the second half. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
