New England Revolution forward Diego Fagundez featured once again for Uruguay at the South American U-20 Championship, starting as the host country lost 1-0 to Venezuela in Maldonado on Friday.
Fagundez, playing in his first competitve games for his birth country at the tournament, played 74 minutes before being substituted. He has featured in three of Uruguay's four games at the U-20 Championship, and is permanently cap-tied to the South American country.
The lone goal of the game was scored by Venezuelan forward Jaime Moreno Ciorciari in the 27th minute.
Despite losing their first game of the tournament, Uruguay finish Group B play in first place, and are moving onto the Final Stage, where they enter a second group and will play the other five teams that have advanced. The team that finishes atop this group wins the tournament and will also automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, while the top four finishers will qualify for the 2015 U-20 World Cup, to be held in New Zealand.
